Apparently we could all have died! someone came to service the fire and it seems when we got the chimney stack reduced as it seemed to be threatening to fall over and land on soeone, the roofer let loads of junk go down the chimney, blocking the escape of CO, that deadly carbon monoxide. BUT we live to tell the tale! flippin heck!
