beach reflections

there are some nice reflections at the north end of Tynemouth beach. did a little skeching but it was cold and the spire is a bit difficult with all its facets and od bits a challenge without a doubt.

You take some great photos, this would make an interesting painting. I like the previous painting with the trees. I like it with the tree in though.

thanks Diana, on the art forum I am in there has been a lot of discussion about the pros and cons of painting from photos some are purists and think it best to aviod and some think it perfactly fine, I hover between the two.

Well as to whether to use photos or not, its a lot easier to sit in one's own painting space and paint a picture. You have peace and quiet no bugs or heat or wind and you have the luxury of all the time you need to paint it. I think if you have taken the photo yourself then you have had time to soak up the atmosphere of the place and take a photo with the composition of the painting in mind. You don't have to copy the photo religiously either but put your own interpretation on it. Also when you paint plein aire the light changes and the shadows which adds extra difficulties. I paint all my still lifes from life but out-doors is something else.
